Interior Styling: Morocco

“One of the things I really look forward to doing each summer is changing things up at home. Even if the sun isn’t always shining, a light and bright summer feel inside and outside is an instant mood lifter for me. I can’t wait to pack away the flannelette sheets and dust off our outdoor setting!” Jen Waite of White Fox styling shares two beautiful rooms featuring Adairs’ new Moroccan collection.

Guess what’s just around the corner??? No, no, no, I’m not talking about Christmas, (and please don’t remind me, this year has gone all too quickly!) It’s SUMMER! Here in Australia, summer is just around the corner, it’s sooo close I can almost feel the salty beach breeze …

There’s lots I adore about this season, it’s far and away my favourite. One of the things I really look forward to doing each summer is changing things up at home. Even if the sun isn’t always shining, a light and bright summer feel inside and outside is an instant mood lifter for me. I can’t wait to pack away the flannelette sheets and dust off our outdoor setting!

There’s another something I’m particularly excited about for summer 2016 – I’ve been lucky enough to work with the team at Adairs and play with all the beautiful pieces from their new Moroccan collection. The team even allowed me to borrow the pieces I loved and style them up in my own home for a few days! Eeeep! I was like a kid in a candy store! I went with a living room and a bedroom. After poring over the catalogue, I came up with two quite distinctive rooms – I love that about the Mediterranean/Moroccan vibe. It can be a cool and breezy feel or a warm, earthy vibe. Both are stunning.

The bedroom was where I used mostly blues, greys and whites and made the feature of the room the bed itself. I paired it with a beautiful patterned quilt cover, some interesting scatter cushions and chunky throw. Now I know what you’re thinking – ‘But it’s summer, why would you use a chunky throw on a bed in summer?’ Well, the throw, and even the faux fur scatter cushion really added some warmth to the room – in the form of soft texture. With so much blue, the room was feeling a little cold, but by adding in textures that you associate with warmth, the cold aspect is removed. It’s great to be able to use those favourite pieces all year round too! Used sparingly, items like a chunky throw really suit summer styling.

I included plenty of greenery because let’s face it, summer is all about the outdoors and summer living really does bring the outside in. A couple of options for sitting were important as well, so the bench seat was perfect! It’s somewhere you can sit to put shoes on etc, and the plantation chair is a wonderful spot to read before heading to bed. I accessorised the bedroom with some simple ceramic vases, and art work that really complemented the bed, without detracting from it. All in all, the hardest part of styling this room was not jumping into bed and just getting myself all nice and cozy! Our cat had no such qualms mind you!

Interestingly, after the cool of the bedroom, when I approached the living area, I knew I wanted to go for something with a warmer and more earthy feel. In choosing the pieces, I went with browns, light woods, whites and pinks. I began with the rug. It really softened the floor tiles and added a different texture to the leather and woven feels of the coachella and plantation chairs. I styled with two very different chairs because I’m not a big fan of ‘matchy matchy’ and I think the two styles really complement each other. I tied them together by including a beautiful wooden console table and coffee table and again including lots of greenery.

One of my favourite aspects of this space are the cactus prints. Their timber frames really do tie beautifully with the other earthy tones in this area, as well as the cacti themselves tying in with the other greenery.

Finally, the pink in the background really adds to the colour palette, giving a sunset vibe, and is picked up by the gorgeous pink throw, the vase and the woven storage basket. Oh, and what is a summer living space without a big and comfy floor cushion?! A great spot to lounge around 🙂

So there you have it. One collection, two completely different looks! I had so much fun with the whole Moroccan collection and I really do love the versatility of the pieces. If I had to choose a favourite, I really can’t go past the plantation chair. Its blonde wood and beautifully woven rattan make it a light piece that has wonderful texture and really adds interest to a room. Plus, it’s comfy to boot!

Adairs spend and save

If you’re feeling inspired to get into some summer styling of your own, Adairs has a spend and save offer happening at the moment, which is so worth checking out.
